The thing about words is that they are art too. So often we forget that the letters that compose our thoughts and feelings have shape and character, just like the words themselves. I love making what I call "word art", weaving together both phases of poetry and beautiful lettering into a complete picture. I created the following piece coming home from my spring break trip (hence my week long absence from this blog). Check it out!
There are about twenty words in this doodle, describing my trip and my thoughts. I try to make letters that represent how I feel about the words so that the shape the letters take on is an embodiment of my very emotions. Usually, I am trying to conceal my deepest thoughts within these letters, so they are intentionally hard to read.
But even in a typewritten world, seek for the beauty of letters. Love the sensuality of the shape of an s. Adore the caustic k, with its sharp points and tall neck. Get excited by the oddity of a z. Look for the art of letters.
