well, my season is officially over now. I don't know how to feel about it yet. the competitions are done for the year. my racing spikes are packed away in a hidden corner of my room, where I try to contain their stench. my uniform must be returned to its basement home, far away from the place of races. my running shoes I will continue to use, though with slightly less fervor.
what did I gain from this season of racing? better times? certainly. more speed? certainly. but I think that the most important things I learned were not quite so tangible.
I started out the season with a stress reaction in my foot. then, I came down with mono. after both of those were over, I had not run in about 6 weeks, half the season was done, and I wondered if it was even worth it to keep training.
but I did. and I am so glad. perseverance makes a huge difference. my body was healthy again, and I was able to race and race well. it was such a blessing.
